Watch the launch of ‘A Covenant for Health: Policies and partnerships to improve our national health in 5 to 10 years’, a report written by Lord Filkin with a team of experts. The King’s Fund has contributed to this independent report and supported its development.
This stakeholder breakfast event explored the policies and political action needed to improve the health of our nation, to help people lead longer, healthier lives.
The new report makes the case for action across society to prevent ill health and recommend several measures to bring improvements in 5–10 years. The authors argue that change is possible, and that low-cost measures could be taken to help millions of people quit smoking, avoid becoming obese, be more active, reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease, and help many children to be physically and mentally healthy.
The event discusses:
The policies and political action required to reduce the level of ill health in five to ten years.
What needs to be done by charities, the NHS, business, localities, individuals and government to enable people to lead healthier lives.
The case for developing a ‘Covenant for Health’ that brings together the key actors to realise the individual, societal, and economic benefits of better health.
To discuss these important issues ahead of the next general election, Richard Murray was joined by:
Lord Filkin, Member of the House of Lords, and lead author of ‘A Covenant for Health’
Daisy Cooper MP, Deputy Leader, Liberal Democrats, and Liberal Democrat Spokesperson (Health and Social Care)
Lord Markham, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health and Social Care
Kim Leadbeater MP, Labour
This event is the first in a series The King’s Fund is hosting to discuss the priority health policy areas ahead of the next general election.
