A day filled with action around Kenova, WV! Heritage, Shortlines, and more: 3/22/21!

Описание: A much needed 4 day vacation to the Kenova, WV area to shoot some action on the former C&O and N&W mainlines in the area yielded some pretty awesome action over the course of the trip. Day 1 was by far the most action packed, on Monday, March 22st. Things in the morning started out pretty slow, with just a handful of trains shot between sunrise and lunchtime. After that though, we wound up shooting 17 trains between 1:00pm and sunset, with a nice mix on the two railroads.

Most of the action we shot was in downtown Kenova, at the location where the C&O ducks under the N&W bridge that flies over the town of Kenova, and the Ohio River. We did however manage to find a few other good spots to shoot trains with in 20 miles. We shot a loaded ammonium train at the Ashland Amtrak station, as well as a couple of Norfolk Southern trains down the line near Prichard, WV.

One of the hit list items for this trip was the Kanawha River Terminal railroad, which operates a coal loading/unloading operation in Ceredo, WV. While we were between mainline movements, we decided to check in on them at their yard, and stumbled upon a pair of GP40-2L's making moves in the yard, so we spent an hour or so shooting their movements, as well as them making a run to interchange cars on the C&O mainline at KV Cabin.

All around, this was a fantastic way to kick off a trip to the area, and I've still got 3 more days of footage to edit and upload; and I can't wait to make another trip to the area!
