So, a friend and I were testing if you could keep the shield buff while using a primary weapon, as well as use the buffs from mobile cover.
As it turns out, the icon from the Shield icon can stay on your character even after leaving the mobile cover, however this glitch is mere graphical and does not actually keep the primary weapon. However the mobile cover and shield buffs will stack, it'll switch you back to the pistol. :(
