Welcome to Ball Now Part Two! Ever wonder what a dedicated basketball practice looks like, even right after demolishing a full rack of ribs at Texas Roadhouse? 😂 Join me as I take you through my comprehensive shooting and finishing workout on an outdoor court, designed to elevate every aspect of my game.
In this session, you'll see my routine, my struggles (Sun glare!), and the drills I use to become a more complete player.
Here’s the Practice Breakdown:
(0:00) Intro & Warm-up: Getting straight into it after a big meal!
(0:08) Close Shots: Dialing in the touch with 20 swishes from close range.
(0:20) Mid-Range Work: Finding the rhythm from middy, even when the sun decides to play defense.
(0:35) Three-Pointer Gauntlet: My specific three-point drill to build consistency and versatility:
8 standard catch & shoot or one-dribble threes.
3 "LeBron-style" jab step threes (tougher than they look!).
2 freestyle off-the-dribble threes.
(Repeated on both wings, plus volume shooting from the top of the key).
(4:37) Why EVERY Player Needs a Jumpshot: My thoughts on the importance of shooting in today's game, especially for guards. I discuss how I focus on my shot (almost 5'10", aiming for 6'2") to be unguardable, and how this practice can help you improve your catch-and-shoot and eventually, your off-dribble game.
(7:17) Targeting Weaknesses: Finishing Practice: Moving onto what I consider the weaker part of my game. I break down why a strong drive is crucial (think Steph Curry/LaMelo Ball) to open up the floor.
(8:30) Advanced Finishing Drill (Coleman Myers / By Any Means Basketball): I introduce a challenging finishing drill I’ve been working on for 4 days. This "Advanced Finishing Practice for the Summer" by Coleman Myers focuses on two-foot takeoffs, spin moves, body control, and using the correct hand. It’s tough, especially on my non-dominant side, but the improvement is already noticeable!
(12:00) Freestyle & Fun ("Cooking Time"): After the structured drills, it's time to just hoop, have fun, and work on some creative shots, including an attempt at a "Melo" style jumper!
This workout is all about pushing limits, developing an all-around offensive game (shooting, dribbling, finishing), and understanding that continuous improvement is key, no matter your current skill level. If you're not a 6'10" athletic freak, you NEED these skills!
