My service learning project included creating a presentation and leading a workshop for first generational high school adolescents on the steps to post-secondary. I wanted to do this for the students I currently work with because many of them struggle with the next action steps to take after they have been admitted to college. I tied my learning experience to Erickson's stages of psychosocial development and Bronfrenbrenner's ecological systems model as a way to explain how adolescents are impacted from social, cultural, economical, and environmental factors. Through these theories, I explored and reflected on adolescent identity and relationships they have built in different systems that impact who they choose to become. Through this project, I am reminded of the reason why I came back to work in the community I grew up in and work towards increasing graduation and retention rates. I hope you enjoy my video.
