Dire Grove is the sixth game in the main series of Mystery Case Files games. This game focuses on four graduate students led by Alison Sterling who all travel to a small township near Blackpool. While it carries on from Return to Ravenhearst, it's not linked in with the saga overall.

The Celtic legend of Dire Grove has been passed down from generation to generation for centuries. Considered a fairytale, its telling was meant to frighten small children into staying in their beds through the night. A recently unearthed artifact in the United Kingdom, however, proves the dark legend to be true! Use your wits and Hidden Object talents to follow the trail of a group of missing graduate students in Mystery Case Files: Dire Grove!

As the Master Detective's car pulls into a snowy valley, the newscaster speaks surrounding the heavy snow falling around England, which could be the worst snowstorm in centuries. Finally, the detective arrives at Dire Grove.

Leaving behind the events of the last case, the snow hitting so hard has led the detective to pull into Dire Grove. The detective finds a car that has been abandoned and frozen over. Luckily for them, the car door was left open but further investigating shows a note stating "Help! If you find this note please help us. The legend is real. She is real! Whatever you do, don't-". Cryptic and revealing very little, the detective continues investigating, finding a video camera.

Watching the tape inserted, the detective sees a girl panicking and trying but failing to start her stalling car. She begins writing a note, the same one found earlier. But as she reads what she writes aloud, she's interrupted without a reveal as to what caused it.

Using the license plate, the detective is able to open the glove box which reveals a key. The key is then used to open the trunk of the car, a place for more investigation. The detective pursues forward to the actual building of Dire Grove, finding another tape which reveals that the woman, named as Alison Sterling, is scattering the tapes to increase their chances at being found. She's also running around searching for a Susan. She explains how the legend is real and that it's not a stunt and that she's a university graduate. Surrounding her are various whispers as the panics and runs frantically.
