Pakistan Opens Secret Road To Iran As US Blockade Leaves 3,000 Containers Stranded At Sea

Описание: Pakistan has taken a dramatic step to counter the American naval blockade on Iran by formally opening six overland transit routes for goods destined for Tehran. The Ministry of Commerce issued the Transit of Goods through Territory of Pakistan Order 2026 on April 25, bringing it into immediate effect and allowing third-country cargo to travel by road through Pakistani territory directly into Iran.

The move comes as more than 3,000 containers bound for Iran sit stranded at Karachi port, unable to move after the United States blockaded Iranian ports and restricted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway that carries nearly a fifth of the world's oil and gas in peacetime.

The six designated routes connect Pakistan's key ports, including Gwadar, Karachi and Port Qasim, to Iranian border crossings at Gabd and Taftan via Balochistan. The Gwadar-Gabd corridor alone is estimated to cut transportation costs by 45 to 55 percent and reduce border travel time to just two to three hours.

The order was issued the same day Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad for high-level talks, as Pakistan continues its mediation efforts in the ongoing US-Iran conflict that began February 28. Analysts say the corridor also signals a major strategic pivot away from Afghanistan, effectively bypassing Kabul and repositioning Pakistan as the central overland trade gateway between China and West Asia.
