Reports on Tuesday suggest a series of coordinated military operations across northern Mali may be shifting the balance of the conflict, as regional alliances and foreign forces deepen their role.

According to local media and battlefield accounts, drones operated by the Niger Air Force struck militant positions in the Kidal region on Monday. While there has been no full official confirmation, death notices shared on militant linked pages indicate that several fighters tied to the Azawad Liberation Front were killed in the strikes. If confirmed, the operation would mark a clear example of cross border coordination under the Alliance of Sahel States, a bloc taking a stronger role in regional security.

Fighting has also intensified in and around Kidal and the capital, Bamako, where units of the Russian linked Africa Corps continue to operate alongside Malian government forces. Video released by pro government sources appears to show the defence of a military post in Bamako, though the footage has not been independently verified.

In a statement, the Russian contingent said its reconnaissance teams carried out follow up operations after a night time bombing raid on a suspected militant camp. The unit reported finding bodies, abandoned weapons and destroyed equipment, describing the scene as evidence of a successful strike on armed groups. These claims remain unverified.

Malian officials have welcomed the reported gains. Aliou Tounkara told local media that Russian forces had played a key role on the front lines. At the same time, Maria Zakharova said joint operations between Malian troops and Russian personnel were ongoing, aimed at breaking armed groups across the country.

The conflict has also drawn wider political claims. George Galloway accused Western governments, including that of Emmanuel Macron, of indirectly helping militant groups in the region. These claims have not been proven and have been rejected by Western officials.

Despite signs of military progress, the situation in Mali remains unstable, with large areas still under threat and no clear end to the fighting.
