MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WKRC) - Federal agents are searching for an alleged drug dealer who may be connected to multiple homicides.
Marqui Conley has a criminal past and the family of one of his victims is speaking out, hoping no one else has to go through the pain they experienced. Nine years have come and gone since TaShawn Smiley was killed, but his family's pain has not faded.
"We played basketball together. We ran track together. We had a lot of memories together,” said Sadedra Smiley, TaShawn’s older sister.
Sadedra watched her brother die on a Middletown corner in 2010 after he was mowed down while riding his bike.
“His birthday is coming up soon. May 13. He would've been 29. Never had a chance to enjoy no part of life,” said Sadedra.
To make matters worse, TaShawn grew up with his killer, Conley.
“They knew each other. They played together, and the next thing I knew is he was looking for him, wanted to kill him,” said Mary Moore Smiley, TaShawn’s grandmother.
That's why the Smileys are not surprised to see the FBI searching for Conley.
Police searched homes in Springboro and Middletown trying to find Conley this week. They say he's part of a violent crime organization connected to several homicides.
“The reason I speak out today is because this man is supposedly dangerous,” said Sadedra. “We don't need anyone else going through this situation that all these other families have to deal with."
Middletown court records show Conley has been charged 25 times since 2016 with crimes ranging from drug trafficking to eluding police.
“Just get him off the street. He don't need to be around anymore on the street. He need to be in jail for what he done and all the things they say he done,” said Mary.
“Just please speak out. Any information about this, please let the detectives know,” said Sadedra.
Conley served five years for killing TaShawn. He struck a plea deal with prosecutors and was able to take the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Conley is also known as “KeyMan.” Police say he has ties all across Ohio from Cincinnati to Columbus and Toledo. If you have any information, call the FBI at 513-421-4310.
