Walking the snow shoe hike in the Sierra Nevada mountains in Granada, Andalucia, Spain

Описание: During my travels to Granada last year I tried out walking with snow shoe rackets in tne snowy Sierra Nevada mountains. And I can absolutely recommend it!  


Hiking with the snow shoes is different from snow sports such as skiing and snowboarding. Here are 3 things I loved about snow shoe hiking compared to most popular wintersports:


1) Connection to nature - with the snow shoes you literally go off the beaten path. During the activity of hiking with snow shoe rackets we didn't follow any trail or path. This made the connection to the mountains different from speeding down a slope. With the snow shoes you create your own path in fresh snow and therefore you experience the snow in a different way.


2) The silence - (or the sounds of the wind at times) are so impressive. Besides of your group if you booked a shared excursion, there are no other people because you're not on a ski slope. Walking with the snow shoes is off slope away from any crowded pistes or routes. This makes it a good activity for awareness and being present in a amazingly beautiful environment totally surround by nature.


3) More affordable activity and no special gear or outfits are needed like you need for some other winter sports. You don't need any special equipment or clothes for this activity of walking in the snow. Obviously you'll wear warm winterclothes, and waterproof shoes are recommended. But the tour I booked, provided everything else: a profesional and friendly guide, transport, the snow rackets, and even a muesli bar 😃
