Do robot swarms work like brains? Scientists and engineers in the Research and Exploratory Development Department of the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory are teaming up with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine to examine pattern-based thinking that can be used to study robots in motion. This is called dynamic replanning. Much like how an animal's brain reroutes its path while moving, researchers are applying similar algorithms to groups of robots (called "swarmalators") to automatically adapt to changes in the environment.
