Elvis Presley with "Don't Be Cruel" recorded from the original US 78 rpm shellac single on RCA Victor 20-6604. "Don't Be Cruel", B-side to "Hound Dog", was released in the US in July 1956 with both sides peaking at Nr. 1 on the Billboard Pop Chart. Both songs were recorded on July 2, 1956 at RCA Studios in New York with Elvis Presley on lead vocals, Scotty Moore on electric lead guitar, Bill Black on bass, Shorty Long on piano and D.J. Fontana on drums. Backup vocals by The Jordanaires featuring Neal Matthews, Hoyt Hawkins and Hugh Jarrett. The session was engineered by Ernie Oehlrich and produced by Steve Sholes. Words and music by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.
