Tiny Tim’s God Bless Tiny Tim (1968) was cut at TTG Studios in Los Angeles and produced by Richard Perry (later Harry Nilsson’s Nilsson Schmilsson, Carly Simon’s No Secrets). The arrangements were handled by Artie Butler (Phil Spector sessions, The Shangri-Las), who built a lush orchestral backdrop around Tiny Tim’s falsetto ukulele numbers. Backing came from top Wrecking Crew players like drummer Hal Blaine and bassist Carol Kaye, anchoring a record that balanced vaudeville novelty with genuine 60s pop craft. The album’s breakout “Tip-Toe Thru’ the Tulips” was a revival of a 1929 hit originally sung by Nick Lucas, and Tiny Tim’s eccentricity made it an unlikely countercultural anthem. “Strawberry Tea” and “The Coming Home Party” nodded to psychedelia, while his deep-voiced takes on standards revealed the breadth of his range. Perry would later cite the project as a launching pad for his career, and David Bowie even admitted to being influenced by Tiny Tim’s theatricality. The title phrase became his signature sign-off, a reminder that this oddball debut is both parody and sincere pop history.
