Описание: Explains the organization and characteristics of DNA, the carrier of genetic information. Watson and Crick proposed a double-helical, right-handed structure of DNA in 1953. This is the most accepted model of DNA as it satisfies the properties of DNA and makes it fit to serve as the carrier of genetic information. This video explains the organization of DNA molecules.
DNA is a polynucleotide. It is a double-stranded, ladder-like structure that twists around it to form a right-handed helix. The backbone of the ladder is made up of a sugar-phosphate chain and steps are formed of nitrogen base pairs.
Nitrogen base pairs are complementary base pairs. Adenine always pairs with thymine and Guanine pairs with cytosine. The helix is stabilized by H-bonds formed between N-base pairs.

Nucleic acids include DNA and RNA. They are very vital molecules as DNA serves as a carrier of genetic information and RNA serves as the machinery of protein synthesis. Both DNA and RNA are polymers of nucleotides. The building blocks of nucleic acids (Nucleotides) are composed of Nitrogen bases, Pentose sugars, and phosphate molecules. Properties of DNA and RNA are decided by the structure of N-bases, sugars, and phosphate. It is very essential to understand the structure of the building blocks for a better understanding of the organization. This video is significant wrt understanding the basic components of DNA and RNA. The video describes simple tricks to draw the structure of Adenine, Guanine (the Purines) and Cytosine, Thymine, and Uracil (the Pyrimidines). Furthermore, an easy trick is given to correctly draw the structure of ribose, deoxyribose sugar, and phosphate molecule. This video explains the composition and structure of each component of DNA and RNA. I hope, this will help to understand the concepts in the organization of nucleic acids.
