According to an EFCC source, El-Rufai is currently with investigators, although it remains unclear how long the interrogation will continue. The probe follows allegations raised by the Kaduna State House of Assembly’s ad hoc committee, which claimed that loans obtained during his administration were either mismanaged or utilised without proper due process.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has filed a three-count charge against the former governor, accusing him of unlawfully intercepting the phone communications of Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. The situation escalated outside the EFCC office in Abuja as pro- and anti-El-Rufai supporters reportedly clashed. Operatives of the anti-graft agency deployed teargas to disperse the crowd, with reports indicating that pregnant women and children were affected during the chaos.

Reacting to the broader political implications, opposition figure and former presidential spokesman Umar Sani suggested that El-Rufai’s actions may be calculated to provoke the government into a direct political confrontation.
