Trip report for an unsuccessful summit attempt of Goldmine Mountain, in San Tan Mountains Regional Park outside Chandler / Phoenix, Arizona. This is a winter ascent (February) via Goldmine trail and off-trail starting at the Goldmine trailhead. Roundtrip distance: 3.63 miles, elevation gain: 1,266 feet.
Not making it to the summit can be disappointing, but everyone does it! Here is a nice example of a seemingly "sure-thing" summit, but turning around was the best option, so I took it. I keep track of all of my summit attempts, whether they are successful or not, because there is always something that can be learned from every experience.
