I had a patient a couple weeks ago who was referred for a “metallic taste”. No other dental issues were present, just this annoying taste.
I saw a small area on the tongue that was smooth and slightly erythematous. Probable cause was a fungal infection. You don’t have to see the characteristic white plaques” with all fungal infections so do a thorough exam and get a good history and medication history.
