The Two-Spot Octopus is named after the conspicuous single bright-blue spots called ocelli located under each eye.
They are native to parts of the Pacific Ocean, including the coast of California.
The Two-Spot is a master of disguise and can instantly change color to blend in with its underwater home. It can thus be perfectly camouflaged in its surroundings. The cells in its skin which allow this to happen are called chromatophores. The creature can also change the texture of its skin to blend in with rocks and coral.
The Two-Spot is a soft-bodied mollusk with eight tentacles.
They feed on abalone, limpets, crabs, snails, shrimps, and small fishes in the intertidal zone.
Their enemies are Moray Eels and Scorpion Fish. They are sensitive to water pollution and environmental change.
