The half kneeling lunge stretches the hip flexors, the group of muscles responsible for lifting the legs. Tight hip flexors are a common complaint for runners, cyclists, and people who spend long amounts of time sitting. Here, Personal Trainer and Yoga Teacher Ryan shows how to do a kneeling lunge stretch.
How To Do Kneeling Lunge Stretch
1. Start by kneeling on both knees then step your left foot forward so that your knee and ankle are in line with your knee bent at a 90 degree angle. Your torso should remain upright with shoulders and hips stacked in line.
2. Square your hips so that both hip bones face forward.
3. Engage your core and begin to tuck your pelvis towards your ribs so that your tailbone tucks towards the ground.
4. Keep this form and gently push your hips forward to deepen the stretch.
5. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat on the other side.
