STORYLINE:
Clashes seen earlier in Bolivian cities on Wednesday extended to capital La Paz, where protesters threw firecrackers against police clad in riot gear.
The violent protest follows a five-day-long strike called by opposition lawmakers that proposed a referendum to increase the country's fiscal budget.
Protests first sparked in Santa Cruz city, stirred by the governor who is also a member of the opposition.
