The Squamish 50 miler was my second 50 mile race and boy was it a doozy. 50+ miles, 12,500+ feet of vertical, same for descent, extremely technical, brutal. This course is not easy and took it's toll on my body all day long. I have to give major credit to Gary, the race director, for not just designing one of the most gruelling courses, but making it consistently difficult all the way to the very last mile.

A huge majority of the course is run on beautiful lush singletrack in the Pacific Northwest and it never fails to take your breath away. All day you're dealing with steep ascents (up to 40% grade in some sections), brutally steep and technical descents (there were many times you have to hold on to trees to get down), and a muggy heat that keeps your skin clammy and hot no matter how much cold water you splash on yourselves at aid stations.

While the night after the race I was cursing Gary's name, now a few days later I'm already craving another go at this insane course and can't wait for 2014. Who's joining me?!
