Baxter’s Nerve Diagnosis for Heel Pain

Описание: This patient has been misdiagnosed with plantar fasciitis for a few years, however he most probably has a baxters nerve entrapment. This is often mistaken for plantar fasciitis with heel spur syndrome, entrapment neuropathy of Baxter’s nerve is a painful condition that can lead to chronic heel pain. Typically, a patient will present with pain on the plantar medial (under the heel and on the inside) aspect of the heel or directly under the heel with possible numbness on the outside of the foot that exponentially increases in severity the longer the individual is weightbearing.

 The discomfort begins as an ache, progresses to a burning pain and eventually leads to numbness. These sensations can travel across the plantar (bottom) aspect of the foot laterally (outside) toward the base of the fifth metatarsal (the area under your small toe). Often the patient complains of pain shooting across the foot to the outer aspect of the heel. Unless Baxter’s nerve is entrapped and occurs in conjunction with plantar fasciitis, the pain does not present as post-static dyskinesia (i.e. when you wake up in the morning you get pain and after periods of rest), as with this patient who had no early morning heel pain.
