Private schools told to admit poor students against 25% quota under RTE
Collector P. Sankar has in a release said that the government has issued orders that all private schools should admit students belonging to the poor, weaker and disadvantaged sections in the entry level class against the 25% quota under the Right To Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act.
The Collector said that as per G.O. No.60 of the School Education Department dated April 1, 2013, all private schools should prominently display in their schools the details regarding the admissions against the 25% quota under the RTE Act.
Noting that the district administration has received complaints from the public about some private schools not issuing the relevant application forms for admission against the 25% quota, he said that such behaviour on the part of the private schools was against the RTE Act and a violation of the G.O.
Action warned
Legal action would be taken against schools which fail to take steps to admit students against this quota, he said.
The release further stated that the parents could obtain the application forms for admission to the entry level class in all private schools in the respective schools.
Last date
The application forms can also be downloaded from the website, www.teachertn.com and www.padasalai.net and the completed applications sent to the respective schools before 5 p.m. on May 9.
If there are any difficulties in obtaining the application forms from schools, the public could contact the Inspector of Matriculation Schools (04175-235980) or the Chief Education Officer (0416-2252690) for redressal of their grievances, the Collector said.
