To address the critical issue of soil degradation in the Ethiopian highlands, the Ethiopian government joined forces with GIZ to promote Integrated Soil Fertility Management (ISFM). ISFM aims to sustainably enhance soil health, boost soil productivity, and increase crop yields, making agriculture more resilient.
In Ethiopia’s Tigray region, the Tigray conflict severely disrupted agricultural activities, destroyed infrastructure, and limited farmers’ access to essential inputs like fertilizers and seeds, which led to a significant decline in crop yields and widespread food insecurity.
However, during these challenging times, ISFM technologies were a crucial lifeline for farmers. They enabled continued agricultural production, supporting the livelihoods and food security of Tigrayan communities.
