This is a recording of the Informal Session #2 meeting in the series Road To Google Developer Certification workshop - Professional Cloud Database Engineer. The session leaders are Norbert Kremer, Ph.D. of GDG Cloud Boston and Jessica Rudd, Ph.D. of GDG Atlanta. The discussion is mostly about Course 04 and Course 05 in the Skills Boost Professional Cloud Database Engineer learning path. There is some bonus material on Database job roles and a discussion of the variety of relational and NoSQL data stores within Google Cloud.

In last week's session we chatted about Blue/Green deployments and Canary deployment for Cloud Databases. See last week's video at 1:22:25 These techniques are used all across the cloud, not just for databases. They have been perfected by Google Site Reliability Engineers. There are books on this topic from Google, we call them the Google SRE books. Find the references to these books at 11:20 in this video.

To tee up a conversation that we'll have in a later meeting, I introduced the idea of NoSQL databases, and how they contrast with relational database systems. At 17:10 in this video, you'll see the references to a couple of important books in this field.

He illustrates 4 possible patterns of how architects might contribute to a development team. He's not specifically discussing Data Architects, but the same ideas apply.
