As part of the Fall 2025 Advance RI-CTR Implementation Science Seminar series, Carly M. Goldstein, PhD, FAACVPR, spoke on "Intervention Optimization: From Effectiveness Through Implementation Success" on November 18th, 2025.
This presentation describes how intervention optimization frameworks, including the Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST), can be blended with implementation science to maximize effectiveness and public health impact. Through this integration, scientists can design interventions that not only deliver treatment results but also can be delivered with fidelity and acceptability across diverse practice settings. By understanding applied examples of such work, you will gain practical knowledge on combining these two high-impact, high-interest areas of modern scientific practice.
Carly M. Goldstein, Ph.D, FAACVPR, is an Assistant Professor (Research) of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Brown Alpert Medical School and the Weight Control & Diabetes Research Center of The Miriam Hospital. Her research focuses on developing and improving mHealth interventions and prevention programs for obesity, cardiovascular disease, and medically complex patients utilizing novel technology. Most of her work uses optimization methodology like the Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST) and Sequential, Multiple Assignment, Randomized Trials (SMART). She collaborates with patients and healthcare providers to develop and disseminate interventions through participatory methods, implementation science, and science communication. She earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Kent State University.
