Sig Figs: Multiplication & Division
In chemistry, calculations are performed with measurements taken in lab (even if they are just problems from a textbook) and these measurements were taken with instruments that have different degrees of precision associated with them. Therefore, an answer to a calculation involving measurements can only be as precise as your least precise measurement.
If the calculation involves multiplication and/or division, then the answer can have the same number of significant figures as the measurement with the least amount of sig figs.
