A very common misconception is that when an electrical fault occurs, electricity “goes into the ground” and that’s what trips the circuit breaker.
That sounds reasonable — but it’s not how electrical systems actually work.
In this video, I explain why a ground rod cannot trip a circuit breaker, does not clear electrical faults, and does not make an energized appliance safe during a fault.
We follow the path people assume fault current takes and show why the earth has too much resistance to allow enough current to flow to trip a breaker. The result can be a metal appliance frame that remains energized and dangerous.
Ground rods are not useless — they just serve a different purpose. They help stabilize voltage and deal with surges, not clear faults.
