At some point, I stopped playing Pokémon and started performing it. Trying to be good replaced the joy of simply having fun. Stats, strategies, rankings, and validation slowly buried the wonder that made me fall in love with it in the first place. It took a quiet moment on the couch with my two-year-old and a “big puppy” on the screen to remind me what I lost.
This video isn’t really about Pokémon. It’s about what happens when we turn play into performance, joy into something we feel we have to earn, and hobbies into tests of worth. If you’ve ever felt this happen with a game, a hobby, music, art, fitness, or anything you once loved, this video is for you.
