Course Overview -

This course focuses on the life and legacy of Abu Hanifa, and surveys the evolution of the Hanafi school in different regions of the Islamic world. It looks at the traditional sources and discusses both the history and legend about the imam. The course evaluates the particular pattern of reasoning that distinguished Abu Hanifa’s fiqh from other methodologies.


Learning Outcomes -
Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to:

• Demonstrate familiarity with the life and legacy of Imam Abu Hanifa
• Appreciate the context within which the Imam lived
• Attain in-depth understanding of the Hanafi methodology and fiqh, especially within the modern context
