In the Blink of an Eye | Art, Life, and the Passage of Time

Описание: There’s a theory (the Block Time Theory) that past, present, and future all exist in the present moment. After returning from a recent trip spent sorting through memorabilia from my childhood home in Arkansas with my brother, and facing recent health concerns, I began reflecting on how quickly life passes and how meaning is carried forward through memory and creativity.

It got me to consider how in a sense, time is relative when it comes to memory, that all of our accumulated memories of times past, and hope for the future, are all carried in this present moment.

In this video, a series of recent events all come together to form a simultaneous narrative which works as a meditation on this idea. It formed as I began working on some canvases as gifts for my daughter for Christmas, and I began to consider how the exploration of one's personal history connects us to a larger sense of life, and its collective weight. The canvases I work on with my daughter become an emblem of something new, continuing the cycle of influence, inheritance, and imagination.

This is a reflection on change, experience, and the illusion of the “I”—and on creativity as a shared continuum rather than an isolated act.
