Many still think that Dune 2 was the first RTS. However, those in the know understand Herzog Zwei to be the first, but is it? (no, it isnt)
It is fascinating how all early real time strategy games were also action games in which you directly controlled either one of your rank and file units, or some kind of special command super-unit. the cursor-based, "eye-in-the-sky" variety of RTS did begin with Dune 2, many years after the basic concept was laid out. It seems backward to me, but that's the truth!
Also, I'm so so bad at this game. It is so difficult.
