Cleveland, September 3, 1909. 1:30 AM. Hotel Euclid.
George Stanfield (night watchman) hears drunk guest disturbing everyone. Approaches professionally.
"Sir, it's late. Please lower your voice. Hotel rules."
Guest turns: "Do you know who I am? I'm Ty Cobb. I don't take orders from hotel servants."
George: "Mr. Cobb, all guests follow rules. Including you."
Cobb punches George. Grabs his throat. Choking him.
Then: Pulls KNIFE.
George fights back with night stick. Knife falls. Both men brawl. Hotel manager stops it. Police arrest Cobb.
Trial November 22, 1909: Cobb pleads guilty to assault with deadly weapon.
Sentence: $100 fine. Probation. No jail time.
George: Broken nose (permanent scar), trauma, life changed forever.
Cobb: Paid $100 like buying newspaper. Walked free. Continued career. Continued violence.
Pattern repeats: 1910 Billy Evans fight, 1912 disabled fan attack, 1912 Detroit mugging—each time, light punishment or none.
System protected famous athlete. Failed innocent worker.
George died 1943. Cobb died 1961 in Hall of Fame.
