These are all great questions that some people have when considering a career in nursing. The short answer to this question is yes - nurses will likely have to take a drug test at some point.

Drug testing can begin in nursing school, as some school will require nursing students to take a drug test during a physical exam or during admissions.

Depending on your employer, you may have to take a drug test when applying for a job. In addition, some employers will randomly drug test nurses at regular intervals. In the event of an injury or incident, you will probably have to take another drug test.

I have had at least 2-3 incidents in which I was required to take a drug test after the incident occurred.
