Boeing 777 Fuel Sample | Microbial Bacteria and Fungus Inspection
Microbial organisms can live in jet fuel. If they are present and allowed to go untreated it is possible for them to clog the fuel system possibly causing engine shutdown during flight. To detect the presence of microbial growth fuel samples are taken regularly and cultured to see if they may be present.
The sampling process involves collecting fuel from the sump area of each tank. Then the sample is drawn and injecting into the culturing jar. If there are microbes present they will be evident in 30-72 hours after the test sample is injecting into the culture jar.
