Featherlite had its modest beginnings in the city of Bangalore in the year 1965. In a time when small home-owned businesses were the norm, Mr. Gopal Ramnarayan Chellaram decided to explore the furniture industry. His research led him to America where a few garden furniture companies intrigued him and he saw the potential for such a market in India.
When he came back, Mr. Chellaram began producing the first aluminum based garden furniture in the country. The popular connotation about aluminum at the time was that it was ‘light as a feather’, and so he coined the term ‘Featherlite’ for his company and it has stuck for 50 years since.
