Soft & Fluffy Tea Buns – Easy Homemade Recipe 🇱🇰

Ingredients:
• 500g flour, plus extra for dusting
• 10g salt
• 60g caster sugar
• 1 tsp vanilla essence
• 10g instant yeast
• 50g unsalted butter, softened
• 300ml cool water
• Vegetable oil, for kneading
• 100g sultanas or raisins
• 1 egg, beaten (for glazing)
Instructions:
1. Tip the flour into a large mixing bowl. Add the salt, sugar, and vanilla on one side, and the yeast on the other.
2. Add the butter and about three-quarters of the water. Mix with your fingers, gradually adding the rest of the water until you have a soft, slightly sticky dough. Don’t worry if you need a little more water or flour – just aim for soft, not soggy.
3. Lightly oil your work surface and tip the dough onto it. Knead for 5–10 minutes until the dough feels smooth and silky.
4. Place the dough in a large, lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a tea towel and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1–2 hours.
5. Once risen, sprinkle the sultanas on top and work them into the dough. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until evenly mixed.
6. Divide the dough into 8 pieces. Shape each into a ball, then roll each into a round bun about 1cm thick. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
7. Line 2 baking trays with parchment paper, place the buns on them with some space in between, and cover each tray with a clean plastic bag. Let them rise for about an hour until doubled in size.
8. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 200°C.
9. Bake the buns for 10–15 minutes until golden and puffed up. Cool on a wire rack and enjoy!
