I've gotten lots of requests to recommend tripods that won't break your bank account, and here are three tripods under $500 that I can personally recommend.
Each of these tripods includes a short center column option for ground-level shooting, independent leg spread, and a load capacity of at least 15 lbs. They also allow you to use any tripod head you want.
