Port Hawkesbury Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton and Mi’kmaq Author Karen Bernard engage with television anchor Nancy Regan in a very meaningful and important conversation in regard to reconciliation with the Indigenous peoples of the North American continent. Brenda Chisholm-Beaton and Karen Bernard describe their relationship as adopted sisters and have jointly been working on many reconciliation projects. They speak about the empowerment and leadership of women, especially in Indigenous communities of Nova Scotia. Karen Bernard also describes her childhood and her work as a social justice advocate. Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton, who is as well the president of the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities, elaborates on how reconciliation happens at the municipal, provincial, and federal level in Canada. This informative conversation is happening at the Friends United International Convention Centre in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. The three interview participants are discussing their friendship and connection with the Friends United Initiative and how all jointly have been facilitating a constructive and respectful reconciliation dialogue between all peoples through the meaningful messages of the Friends United Indigenous artists.
