**The Eyes Have It, a short story by Ruskin Bond, was originally published in Contemporary Indian English Stories.
Ruskin Bond used first person narrative technique here in the story. Everything is narrated by the person who himself is blind.

While going to Dehradun by train he meets a girl. Their conversation starts. The narrator tactfully hides his blindness from the girl to impress her.

The girl bids him good-bye as the train arrives at her destination. A new male passenger comes into the compartment. He informed that the girl was completely blind. The revelation jolts the narrator. This is an ironical twist that makes the end .

It is an ideal short story. It has a limited number of characters – the narrator, the girl and the new passenger.
Bond’s art of lucid story telling is simple in approach but universal in appeal. Human psychology is also evident. Its plot is well-knit.
Everything happens in the train compartment and the time chosen is October when Mussoorie is in its prime.
It shows Ruskin Bond’s sympathy for the blind and for their troubles and loneliness.
