Amp Modelling Shootout #1: POD X3 Pro, VG-99, V-Amp Pro, SGX2000 Express, J-Station

Описание: Well, a bit other topic this time. I started to compare a bit the amp modelling units I'm currently owning, which are:

Line 6 POD X3 Pro
Roland VG-99
Behringer V-amp Pro
ART SGX2000 Express
Johnson J-Station

For the first video I used a medium distorted british sound without effects that is good for Hardrock, NWOBHM, etc.

I not tried to let them sound as similar as possible, but keep the sound of each gear its uniqueness. It should just give you an idea how authentic it can sound.

All recordings are made with my drop C tuned ESP Ltd EC-2005 Special 30th Anniversary Limited Edition. I recorded twice for left and right channel and added a basic drum.

Well, I'm a happy owner of a '68 Marshall JMP-50 Plexi since 35 years and I think I know a bit about guitar sounds. Here are my experiences with my gear.

Line 6 POD X3 Pro
Pro: Very versatile and lot of authentic sounds and effects. Good sound quality. The Variax gives even some more possibilities with additional guitar modelling. Good Software tool. Many sounds online available.
Con: Somehow not really the 100% authentic amp feeling I would've expected. Only one external effect routing

Roland VG-99
Pro: Very versatile especially if using the GK-3. Good dynamic amp feeling. It shines with acoustic, 12-string and non-guitar acoustic modellings, bass guitar modellings, Guitar-to-MIDI, effect sounds, D-Beam controller, etc. Good software tool.
Con: No any external effect routing!!! Somehow fragile GK-3 connection

Behringer V-amp Pro
Pro: surprisingly good sounding unit for the money!!! Two separate external effect routings (mono-pre, stereo-post)!!! Good for clean and slight overdrive sounds
Con: not a real authentic amp feeling, limited effect possibility

Johnson J-Station
Pro: Surprisingly good, dynamic amp feeling. Good Software tool. Cheap price because nobody wants it!!!
Con: limited, not very modern sounds, limited effect possibility

ART SGX2000 Express
pro: Versatile sound generation with a very musical 5-Band EQ, tube contour, etc. Two separate external effect routings (mono-pre, stereo-post)!!!
con: Not really a 100% authentic amp feeling (but for the age still impressive quality!!!)

I love them all, because every unit is very distinctive and has its strenght.
