In this recap from the 4225 Ponce jobsite in Coral Gables, BDA Systems Co. CEO Raul Pla sits down with Project Manager Gabe Lopez to review what made this installation successful, and what made it unique.
Despite being less than a mile from the City of Coral Gables transmission tower, this reinforced concrete, low-e glass building still required a BDA system to support critical areas like stairwells, elevator shafts, and upper floors. Raul and Gabe discuss why proximity to a tower doesn’t automatically guarantee reliable in-building coverage, especially in modern South Florida construction built to hurricane standards.
They walk through the early RF findings, coordination with the GC and electrician, city survivability requirements for riser cabling, and how engineering decisions helped reduce unnecessary cable runs and control cost. They also explain the balance required during commissioning: when the outdoor signal is strong, amplification must be carefully tuned so the system supports first responders inside the building without interfering with the broader municipal network.
The conversation also covers fire alarm integration, avoiding last-minute inspection failures, and why communication and transparency with the general contractor played a key role in keeping the project smooth from start to finish.
If you’re involved in commercial development, construction, or property management, this recap highlights the practical realities of delivering a compliant, cost-efficient, and well-commissioned BDA system in a dense commercial environment.
