The push-up test is a simple way to measure upper-body strength, muscular endurance, and core stability. It reflects how well your shoulders, chest, arms, and trunk work together to control your body against gravity.
How the Test Works
You’ll perform as many quality push-ups as possible without rest.
Hands under shoulders
Body in a straight line from head to heels
Chest lowers under control until elbows reach ~90° - (chest down to a yoga block)
Full lockout at the top
No sagging hips or flared elbows
You can pause at the top, but you may not pause at the bottom.
The test ends when form breaks or you can no longer complete a full repetition.
