Welcome to this how-to guide on how to fit an external microphone to your SJ4000 "Go-Pro style"action camera.
Unfortunately, probably due to production costs, the SJ4000 camera only came with a very poor quality internal microphone. This is a shame, as the video quality and other features on this unit are fantastic. But after getting sick of poor sound quality from the built in microphone on almost all my videos, I decided to strip a unit down and see how easy it would be to retrofit an external microphone jack.
This guide will show you how to do this yourself and as can be heard, the audio quality is so much better. This was tested using a cheap microphone from a car handsfree kit, and as you can hear it works very well.
This should take you no longer than 15 minutes to do if you are relatively competent with using fine soldering equipment and working with small PCB's
