Here I am, trying out my new APC 12.25" x 3.75" propeller on my old OS MAX 46fx. Let's see what kind of power I can get out of this 16-year-old glow-fuel motor before I retire it.
As measured, this setup develops about 6.30 lbs of static thrust at 11,600 rpm on this 8.75 lb plane setup with full tank. That's about a 0.72:1 thrust-to-weight ratio. The old prop only gave me 5.50 lbs of thrust, but it didn't have the added work of dragging those big floats around either.
As you'll see, the old OS MAX 46fx does pretty well dealing with the added weight and drag of these big floats. This prop does so much better than the old Master Airscrew 10" x 7" that was recommended years ago for this motor and trainer package. If it wasn't for the mess, I'd be tempted to leave this motor on this plane!
I now have all the components on-hand to make the electric conversion. With all the rain we're having this weekend, that conversion might happen pretty soon.
