Beloved Watch dives in to the wonderful world of the solid gold Rolex Submariner model 16618 with not only rarely seen condition but also a "SWISS" only dial.
The "SWISS" only dial was produced in 1998 when Rolex upgraded to Luminova. Luminova was quickly upgraded again to Super Luminova in 1999. This speedy upgrade birthed the "SWISS" only dial as a rare variation only made for one year.

Introduction
Welcome to Beloved Watch My name is Thomas and today we’re taking a closer look at the Rolex Submariner 16618.
General Watch Description 0:17
This classic solid yellow gold sports model features a sunburst blue dial with gilt print and minute track. The blue uni-directional bezel insert also utilizes gold timing graduations.
Case & Bracelet 0:30
The 40mm case is secured to the wrist by a 92908 yellow gold bracelet with flip lock clasp.
The high polish center link brings light closer to the brushed finish out link and lugs. This subtle detail allows us to appreciate the untouched nature of this example.
History 0:54
The 16618 was produced from 1988 to 2010. This upgraded 16808 was the first solid gold submariner powered by the now iconic 3135 Rolex caliber.
The 16618 originally retailed for around $19,000 USD dollars. The now discontinued 5 digit submariner is a treasured part of sport model history. This specific example is not only in true near mint condition but also a complete set. Its rare condition and complete nature is complemented by a Swiss only dial.
History of "SWISS" only Rolex Dial 1:40
Tritium Rolex dials are marked at the six position with “SWISS - T 25” or “T SWISS T”. When Rolex moved to lumiNova in 1998 they changed this marking at the six position to “SWISS”. One year later Super LumiNova became to the forefront of Rolex luminescent material. This upgrade was accompanied by yet another change from "SWISS" to "SWISS MADE".
The coveted “SWISS” only dial was only produced in 1998 and 1999. The trip lock crown and crown guards protect the inner workings from moisture while also giving this precious case a feeling of durability and reliability.
Comfort 2:30
The 13mm case thickness feels substantial without sacrificing comfort. The SEL (Solid End Link) bracelet provides long term strength while still giving the user a classic look and feel with the pin hole case.
Final Thoughts 2:47
When I sit back and think of Rolex I imagine a useful mechanism or feature designed for a specific occupation or activity I also think of a mass market icon of luxury. The 16618 embodies both motifs. Thank you so much for watching I appreciate your time, stay tuned for the next episode and subscribe for more watch content.
