When traveling to new cities and destinations it is always best to be well prepared. Especially if you have to catch your plane on time and do not want to deal with the difficulty of finding the right transportation or even miss your flight.
This immersive Walking video shows you not only the cheapest but also the fastest option if you stay near Vienna main trainstation (Hauptbahnhof) to go to Vienna airport.
Please read the full description below, to understand what to be aware of.
Timestamps & further explanations:
00:00 Vienna main trainstation - Main entrance
01:17 Display board showing all departures and arrivals
01:58 Smaller departure boards for the next 10 trains
Here we notice our train that departs to Flughafen Wien (Airport) will leave at 12:12 from platform 9 A-B and is called RJ558. Section A-B is marked on the platform and you should definitely check that, to avoid waiting at the wrong section. Even it does not happen often, there could be more than one train waiting on the platform. Regarding RJ5558, please be aware, this could be any other number but you should check the display when entering the train later
02:22 We now head to the ticket machines, they are quite hidden in a corner, if you are not sure, there is a ticket shop with ÖBB employees who are more than happy to help at 00:29 - on the right side.
02:46 General speaking I can really recommend this app. It is called WienMobil and is available for Google Play & in the App Store: https://www.wienerlinien.at/wienmobil...
03:15 First option that shows ÖBB is the best choice. ÖBB by the way means "Österreichische Bundesbahnen".
For the second option we would need to change the train. We do not want that. Please be aware, that option 3 does not show the red ÖBB or the blue S-Bahn sign, so it is actually a bus.
3:50 Instruction for how to use the ticket machine:
1) change the language on the left side.
2) choose "Airport VIE" as destination. "From" is already set.
3) at the next screen you can choose to add more people. like +1 adult or child. Most probably you do not need any discounts. If you currently hold a valid ticket for public transport, you could check "Excl. city fare". I did that for my ticket, if you are not sure, better leave it unchecked. The ticket then costs a bit less.
4) The final screen shows the next possible options to choose from. The one-way ticket is only € 2,10 without city fare. You could then choose first class for € 18,70 but who needs that on a 15min ride.
05:37 Always keep the original ticket until you leave the trainstation. There could be checks even after you leave the train within the trainstation
08:44 in case you enter from the other main entrance next to the huge Taxi booth, that's how it looks like
10:51 This supermarket is always packed and opens until 11pm
12:42 On the platform
13:26 Regular economy coach
14:12 Coach with Quiet Zone
15:11 Coach that accommodates a Family Zone
15:52 At the very end is the Bike Zone
18:47 230V power outlets below the seats
20:39 We start to move :)
21:54 Funkturm Wien Arsenal
25:02 Marshalling Yard Kledering | Verschiebebahnhof Kledering
25:53 St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery Church | Friedhofskirche zum Heiligen Karl Borromäus - this church is located on the Vienna Central Cemetary, one of the largest of it's kind in Europe.
30:09 OMV Oil refinery Schwechat
35:09 Almost there. You now have several choices, to take the elevator or escalator upstairs to the airport terminals. Directions to Terminal 1 and 3 are everywhere so you really can't miss them. Terminal 3 departure area is in fact 3 floors up.
Voila, that's it, if you enjoyed this video, please let me know in the comment section below.
