But without proper processing, if you use homemade coco peat, it may harm your plants and seeds because coconut husk initially has high Sodium, Potassium, and Chloride salt, hence to lower the salt level from homemade coco peat it becomes necessary to wash and soak the coco peat in water for 10-15 days before use. Follow these steps to make coco peat-
1. Extract some coconut husk from dry coconut.
2. To Remove moisture from the husk, keep these
coconut husk in direct sunlight for 4-5 hours.
3. After drying up there are 2 ways to extract coco peat from coconut husk-
(1) By grinding the coconut husk in Mixer
grinder for 1-2 minutes
(2) Rubbing dried coconut Husk with each
other.
2nd process is the easiest one and you may get a
lot of coco peat within a few minutes.
4. Before using Homemade coco peat You have to
wash and soak this coco peat in water for 10-15
days to lower the salt level of coco peat.
5. After Soaking this Coco peat for 10-15 days
Remove extra water from it and leave this coco
peat in Sunlight for 3-4 hours.
6. Now, after drying soaked coco peat,you can use
this coco peat in your garden as well as for
seed germination.
