Not only was Harry James the world's greatest trumpet player, but he was one of the great Dixieland players. This recording is from a 1972 album that Harry recorded while on a European tour. This is one of the few recordings that Harry ever recorded without his band.
This arrangement of "Sheik of Araby" was done by Rob Turk, Harry's former lead trumpet player. Rob also arranged many charts in the HJ band book, including The Lonely Bull, Traces and Ciao.
I heard Harry play this tune several times during the 70's, and in concert, this tune always turned into a barn burner!!
