Palm & Footwork Drill #3, the Triangle in Bagua Kuntao Silat

Описание: The triangle, or tiga, is a concept used throughout pencak silat and kuntao silat. Palm and Footwork Drill #3 introduces the triangle as a training tool for footwork and body coordination in Bagua Kuntao Silat. The Tiga was one of the first drills footwork drills I learned while studying Kuntao Silat de Thouars, and there are many variations. This variation, while emphasizing the coordination of the sapu, or front foot sweep, and beset or, rear leg sweep, learned in the previous two drills on the square in Bagua Kuntao Silat also further teaches the practitioner about coiling and uncoiling for power and awareness of skeletal structure and positioning. With the employment of elbows for potential strikes, destructions or throws, more awareness must be given to the body position and center of mass by the trainee. Great benefits are reaped by practicing this drill in conjunction with the others. The practitioner begins to truly get a feel for the use of percussive force while engaging in throws and sweeps and maintaining balance while moving and issuing or accepting that force. Additionally, the idea of evasion while staying within your own offensive range for counters starts to be more attainable when this drill and these movements are properly mastered and trained with an opponent. The benefits of self defense and mobility are huge especially when practiced with the other drills of the system.
